The fastest way to inject serious style to any outfit is by adding in a blazer. Extremely versatile, much like the obsessive compulsive hoodie only better. La Miniatura plaid blazer with Arbii-Label black scissors bow tie; Nununu deconstructed skull tank; Baby Beast striped harem shorts. *Hair styling products by Glop & Glam.
We are absolutely thrilled to have been selected to represent NYC-based, Appaman as part of their new AppaMom program. As an AppaMom we were given the opportunity to handpick several pieces from Appaman’s Spring 2014 collection, cool right?!?
For our first editorial we’ve styled our land-based pieces in various ways to explore the versatility of Appaman’s collection. Coming up next we feature their amazing Swim Collection! For now, here comes the street cred that Appaman has been known for since the Summer of 2003. We know that every kid has their own style (generally influenced by their parents until the tween years) so for the Harvard-bound Poindexter’s we styled Appaman’s Galaxy plaid Tilden Shirt buttoned all the way up under their Graham Cardigan paired with their Galaxy Skinny Twill Pants. Always roll up the pants, lower for sophisticated & higher for warmer, hipster days. Also invest in high quality wingtip shoes, we love ours by Crewcuts. For those that prefer a more casual yet still preppy look, unbutton the collar – leave the cardigan open & totally add in the cool shades like Appaman’s The Lennon sunglasses. Wynn is wearing size 7 in all pieces comfortably & thanks to the interior adjustable waistband on all of Appaman’s bottoms, Mr. String Bean has no trouble keeping them up.
All of Appaman’s clothing is naturally soft from the start. Nothing scratchy or itchy here, ever. We especially love how lightweight the Skinny Twill Pants are which make them perfect for Spring & even those cooler Summer nights. For those that prefer a more Rude Boy prep style, pop the collar on Appaman’s plaid shirt and leave it halfway untucked. The collar actually stays up nicely and on the pants, Wynn was thrilled to show off his “monkey on my butt” (boys!).
Our cruising the boardwalk or shopping at the local Farmer’s Market attire includes Appaman’s Fisherman’s Hat, Lennon shades, Graham Cardigan & Skinny Twills. We switched out our footwear to Primigi’s boat mocs and added in our Bobo Choses tank top to show how easily Appaman cohabits with other items from their closets.
Sweet park & playground filled days require easy to wear, easy to move in kid-friendly clothing. Appaman consistently wins us over in the Cool, Calm & Collected department. Wynn is wearing their Short Sleeve Henley in Concrete paired with their super comfy Stanton Shorts in Robot Blue which are pull-on style yet feature an interior adjustable waistband (hands in the ‘err!). Appaman has certainly done their homework on insuring their collections fit every kids body perfectly, which is an amazing feat for any designer to accomplish and thus we applaud them for.
Appaman pays homage to Steve McQueen, James Dean & the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley with their version of the British-style Barracuda Jacket. A lightweight canvas with an uber-cool plaid lining. This is by far the jacket that will take them from Spring thru Summer in cool, understated style. Push up the sleeves and don’t forget your shades & hat! Appaman’s Rockabilly shades are perfect for adding in a touch of swag to an otherwise super casual outfit.
The Barracuda Jacket of the season will live with every single designer in your kids closet in total harmony. We included it over our Jagged Culture camo skull tee, Vicious Wear crumb pants & Timberland boots. And never forget the shades! Not only do they protect your kids peepers from harmful rays but they instantly breathe fresh & fly into any outfit. Wynn is wearing Appaman’s The Lennon.
Fit, Quality & Style – Appaman will win the game of Red Rover Red Rover every single time when it comes to outlasting your kids clothing antics. They are meant to be worn and to be passed down to the next little Poindexters, Rude Boys, Boardwalk Cuties & Rockstars.
Coming up we feature Appaman’s Swim Collection, in the meantime clicking on any of the highlighted links will take you to all purchasing & additional item information. Also for more information on Appaman’s AppaMom program, just click on our official AppaMom badge featured on our right sidebar!

On our travels to LA, we met up with the namesake behind ByNate – Nate! and spent the entire day (and night) hanging out with him at Disneyland! No trip for us ever goes without style so we brought one of our favorite kids fashion designers, La Miniatura along for the ride.
Cool, calm & totally collected at the happiest place in the world! Wynn is wearing La Miniatura’s blue velvet tuxedo jacket and black crayon denim skinnys. Nate sports La Miniatura’s oxford plaid blazer and pants.
La Miniatura’s designer, Jeffrey Sebelia knows exactly how to produce fashion that demands attention and keeps all dignity in check – hence his signature tagline, “dress your kid with dignity”.
Two very active & very energetic little boys had no trouble running, racing, jumping & lounging around in their utmost fancy attire. Where most suits and special occasion clothing can be scratchy, ill-fitting and overall uncomfortable for kids – La Miniatura does it right with fabrics & cuts that easily keep up with any kid’s antics.
Playing your cards right when it comes to purchasing fashion is ultimately what style is all about. Pairing dapper attire with fun chunky boots like Nate’s Palladium Pampa Hi Lea Gusset or slick leather hightops like Wynn’s Paul Smith Junior Rabbit High Tops (available at MonPetit Child) is what keeps things fresh & interesting!
Dressing up and making that extra effort when it comes to style isn’t just for holidays or special occasions. Every day is a celebration and when you look good, you feel good. Wynn & Nate received an enormous amount of compliments while at Disneyland & California Adventure Park and we could tell by their faces & exploded energetic vibe that they knew they looked amazing and above all….loved it!

We had the pleasure of testing out one of Monkeybug Vinyl’s design tees after a great friend had recommended them! Owner, Jen Needham of Seattle, along with her two littles is behind this relatively new Etsy shop. Each design is meant to inspire and acknowledge an adventureous childhood.
No surprise here that Monkeybug Vinyl’s “Wild One” tee is the one we selected for Wynn! Printed on silky-soft cotton tees, their graphics resist fading, cracking & are meant to outlast the little one wearing them.
We layered our Monkeybug Vinyl tee over a denim shirt by Zara, added on a jersey cotton blazer also from Zara and La Miniatura (girls collection) plaid pants for a classic city chic look. Bright & edgy footwear really amp up the style of any outfit, we chose our green Dr. Martens for this one!
Monkeybug Vinyl is constantly updating their designs and even offers select graphics in Adult sizes. Lucy & Gracy, in their Feather print tees are the perfect picture of a carefree childhood. As a special treat for our POP readers, Monkeybug Vinyl is offering 20% off their site with code “20forPopStreet” valid now thru November 11th and just in time for the holidays!

Fall is by far the best season for Fashion & with our temps cooperating nicely we had the opportunity to go out & have a little fun with some of our favorite pieces from Wynn’s closet. At the end, please take a minute to be introduced to the photographer that took these photos. He’s one heck of an amazing young man that I am proud to know & a true inspiration to others, including myself.
Scotch Shrunk plaid snap down; Scotch Shrunk oil-wash artwork tee with rugby striped beanie; Scotch Shrunk slim chino; Crewcuts anchor belt; Next brogue lace up boots.
Stella McCartney lee jacket; La Miniatura born free hoodie; Bit’z Kids waxed skinny pants; Dr. Martens boots.
Photographing children is never an easy task, while I usually do it myself, for these photos I enlisted the help of 17yr old Jacob Kuziela. In the past, Jacob’s main subjects were non-moving, still & didn’t speak. He did a phenomenal job & displayed an extreme amount of patience with Wynn. Everyone has a story and I am thrilled to share Jacob’s with you!
At 13 years old, Jacob lost his father to cancer. Since that time he has wanted every single second of every day captured forever. As Jacob himself told me when I asked how he decided to start taking pictures, he said “I was always interested in photography, the way certain things looked when it was captured. One night I was taking the garbage can up and the sky just looked so gorgeous and I wanted to be able to keep that image forever. My pictures aren’t just pictures, they’re memories. I asked for a camera for Christmas and I got one and what ensued is many months of me expressing who I am with my photography.” I am so proud to call Jacob my friend. He is a true & genuine inspiring young man whom I see having a remarkable future in photography or anything else he sets out to do.
